5th grade students for a fabulous car wash day

Thank you to everyone who held a sign, washed, dried and soaked a car, thank you to all the parents and siblings  who helped dry a car, helped direct the kids to stop washing each other and focus on washing the cars, thank you to all of the family members and friends who turned up to have their cars washed. THANK YOU to this fabulous group of kids and adults who helped make the 5th grade car wash a wonderful day – a fun fantastic event that will benefit the MSPCA and NAACP – each charity will split the $1171 we earned today!

STEAMfest – June 5th

A year like no other deserves a send off like no other! We are so happy to invite you to STEAMfest, a family gathering to enjoy STEAM-based activities and celebrate the end of the school year, on June 5th in the M-R field. There will be bubbles, art, explosions, and so much more! We will be having two sessions: from 1:00pm – 3:00pm and from 3:00pm-5:00pm. During each session, the five groups (designated by color) will rotate through all stations. Please sign up for a session and a group ahead of time so that we can keep an accurate headcount. Is Your 5th Grader Going to Brown M.S. with an IEP or 504?

You’re invited to a zoom for parents of rising 6th graders who are transitioning to Brown Middle School with an IEP or 504 Plan.

Thursday, May 27 at 7:30pm

Join Zoom Meeting, Meeting ID: 796 742 0402

This is an opportunity for parents whose children are receiving special education services (IEP/504 Plan) to ask questions about what student life is like at Brown Middle School including programs, activities, accommodations, communication with staff, ways to get involved, etc.

You can also contact Brown M.S. SEPAC Liaison, Kim Gallaugher anytime at with any questions or concerns about transitioning to Brown.

Did You Notice the Portrait Project is on Display?

Over 90% of Mason-Rice students contributed self portraits to the Portrait Project! They’re currently on display in the windows of the Art Room. From there, we’ll be moving the portraits inside the building, to preserve our memory of this year when, despite the unusual times, our community worked hard to stay connected and strong.

Sign Up & Keep Our Community Healthy

Will you help us keep our students and staff safe? NPS STRONGLY ENCOURAGES families whose students are participating in in-person learning to enroll their student(s) in the COVID-19 testing program. Testing is one of the best ways we have to quickly identify infection and reduce the possibility of in-school transmission. Testing began at Mason-Rice last week, but it’s not too late to join!

Here are 3 reasons to enroll:

  1. It’s easy to sign up! Complete the Consent Form in the Aspen portal for your child to participate (here’s the link!).
  2. It’s painless to administer! This is NOT the “touch your brain” swab! This is a sample taken from the front of your nose with a Q-tip like swab. It’s super-fast and painless. Students are sent home on Monday with an at-home test kit. They swab their nose on Tuesday morning and return the test to school that morning. Easy peasy!
  3. It makes a difference! The more students who participate, the better data NPS has on infection rates in our community. This means NPS can quickly identify infection, reduce the risk of in school transmission, limit quarantines, and keep our schools, athletics and other important activities open for the rest of the year!.
  4. Bonus reason: This testing program is FREE to all families!

Note: Once you enroll, it may take a week for your child to receive their first Monday kit.

Also note: The asymptomatic pooled testing, detailed here, is a separate consent process from giving consent for Nurse Becky to administer a rapid Covid test in school should your child becomes symptomatic at school.

Thank you all for doing your part to keep our kids, teachers, and community safe!
