Mason-Rice Book Fair @ The Centre!
In previous years’ Mason-Rice Book Fair days, The Centre is transformed into a children’s bookstore, featuring carefully selected books appropriate for a wide range of reading levels. We work with Scholastic Book Fairs®, which is one of the world’s largest publishers of children’s books with a mission to encourage the intellectual and personal growth of all children, beginning with literacy. This year may look a little different as we are working out the details of this fun, engaging, and educational fundraiser.
We accept cash, checks or credit cards for your convenience. Thank you for supporting this PTO fundraiser!
How It Typically Works
Parents may send their children with cash or a check (payable to “Mason-Rice PTO”) on the day of their classroom visit. As a guideline, most soft covered books cost less than $10, hardcover books cost less than $20 and pens, pencils and erasers range from 50¢ to $3. Parents can also log into the Scholastic Mason-Rice website and create an eWallet. Children can utilize their eWallet to pay for their books.
If you choose not to send money or you forget, your child can fill out a wish list and bring it home to you.
Pajama Party Read Aloud
Don’t miss the PJ Party Read-Aloud – fun for the whole family! Listen to stories read by special guests. Enjoy cookies while wearing your PJs. Meanwhile, parents can browse at the Book Fair, mingle with other parents and get a head start on holiday shopping. Come join the fun! Bring your water bottle!
Classroom Visit Schedule
Your child will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair with his/her class during the school day. Parent volunteers will be on hand to help students navigate the Book Fair. Typically, parents send their children with cash or check (payable to “Mason-Rice PTO”), or eWallet on the day of the visit. If you forget or choose not to send money, then your child can fill out a wish list and bring it home to you. Check the schedule for your child’s class time.
Volunteering
There are many volunteer options. Daytime opportunities offer the chance to operate the cash registers or help children during your child’s class visit. Evening opportunities include volunteering during the PJ party.
Teacher Book Box Gift Program
The Book Fair is a great opportunity to contribute to your child’s class through the Teacher Book Box Program. Teachers fill a box with books that they would like for their classroom library. These books can then be purchased for the teachers. When you visit the Book Fair, ask a volunteer or look for the Teacher Book Box display. Teachers are always very appreciative when we deliver a box full of books for their students to enjoy! (Specialists and Aftercare will have book boxes as well.)
It is the intention of Newton Public Schools that no student should be excluded from activities due to the inability to pay. Families may apply for a voucher based on financial hardship so that every student may participate in classroom visits. All waiver applications are confidential. Waiver forms are available upon request; please contact Principal Jake Bultema by email bultemaj@newton.k12.ma.us or call 617-559-9570.
