The Mason-Rice PTO is supported by the generosity of our school community. While we normally outline our fundraising events for the upcoming school year, we have decided to put all of our large fundraising initiatives on hold for the 2020-2021 school year. This year we will not be asking our parents to donate to the Annual Fund and sadly, we will not be hosting our annual Online Auction Fundraiser or hosting our Raffle Basket Event. Our current PTO funds will sufficiently sustain us through this academic year as we navigate this new normal. We do intend to provide parents with the opportunity to support our school through shopping initiatives and we hope to host our annual Book Fair (in a modified way).
We hope to continue the fundraising events that have sustained our PTO and brought our community together in the near future. For parents new to our school, please find information about our usual fundraising events below.
The PTO’s annual operating budget has historically been funded primarily by dues (Annual Fund) and fundraisers. Past contributions to our Annual Fund allow us to reduce the number of fundraisers we need to run during the school year.
Beyond the Annual Fund, our major fundraisers are as follows:
Each January, the PTO hosts its annual online auction. The auction is the second largest of the five fundraisers we do each year. It enables us to to support a variety of enrichment programming that would otherwise be unaffordable, including field trips, author visits, multicultural programs, classroom supplies, and staff development.
Parents can help the auction in several ways:
- Be a Auction Team member: Help with project management, auction item entry, donation solicitation from local vendors, or other valuable roles.
- Donate an item or experiences such as a party, wine tasting, vacation house, kayak rental, gift cards, etc.
If you have an idea or can help, email our auction chairs at email@example.com. Click here to learn more.
Raffle Baskets is the third largest fundraiser for the PTO and the one most enjoyed by the kids!
Each classroom puts together a basket of goodies based on a theme that is chosen by the teacher and the children in the classroom. Room parents coordinate parent donations of kid-friendly items costing between $5 and $10. When the baskets are completed, they are wrapped and displayed in the lobby for the children to see. All students are given a few free tickets. Families can also purchase raffle tickets for whatever basket(s) they want. There are also experiences donated by teachers, specialists, and the main office. At the end of the raffle basket period, winners for each basket/experience are selected by a random drawing of names from a hat.
We are a member of the Amazon Affiliates program. In addition, we encourage you to participate in the Box Tops for Education program, register for Stop &Shop Rewards if you are regular in store or Peapod customer, and take advantage of our biannual Tea School Days Promotion. Our amazing fundraiser and community event, the Book Fair, takes place in November each year, transforming the Centre into a children’s bookstore. If is a great opportunity for our children to explore new books and a great way for parents to contribute to the PTO through volunteering and purchasing books.
