Every year your child’s class benefits from having one to two Room Parent(s). This is a fantastic way to stay connected to your child’s classroom activities, get to know other parents, and to be involved in the school. Most classes have two volunteers, so being a Room Parent isn’t too time consuming and is lots of fun!
Your Role as a Room Parent
Each teacher may have his or her own ideas about how you can help out. Some teachers need help getting volunteers for field trips, class parties, or writing workshops. Others may want help in soliciting donations to the classroom for art or science projects. Staying in contact with your teacher throughout the year ensures that he or she is getting the parent support needed, and also strengthens your personal connection to the classroom.
You will also help organize your classroom’s fall social and end-of-the-year party. You will assist in the Raffle Basket fundraiser by soliciting voluntary contributions in the form of items or money that can be used to shop for your classroom’s basket. You will help the PTO send out class-specific emails throughout the year.
For those who are considering becoming a Room Parent this year, please sign up next to your teacher’s name here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E044EA4A82BA3FD0-room1.
To give everyone a chance to serve as a Room Parent, if there are more than two volunteers for your child’s classroom, a volunteer who has never had the opportunity to serve as a Room Parent will be paired with another volunteer who has had the opportunity to serve as a Room Parent. Priority will then be given to volunteers who were not able to serve last school year. If you volunteer for more than one of your children’s classrooms, please note that you may not be selected for each classroom you volunteer for.
Please note that there is no advantage to being the first to sign up, and requests to be a Room Parent with a specific person may not be possible.
Volunteers will be notified by September 13th of who the one to two Room Parents will be.
Room Parent Meeting
There will be a Room Parent Meeting in the After Care Room on Thursday, September 17th from 8:45am – 9:30am. This meeting is NOT mandatory, though we encourage at least one Room Parent per class to try to attend.
If you have any questions, please contact the Room Parent Coordinator, Amanda Mahajan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
