Mason-Rice 3rd Graders Had A Visit From Black Snake Woman

On Monday, December 11th, Creative Arts and Sciences brought Gale Blacksnake and James Whitbeck to our third grade classrooms to share some amazing things about the Native American culture. Gale, known as Black Snake Woman, and James, known as Traveling Medicine Dog, shared history, song, stories and traditions with the class. They sat ‘in-council’ on the floor with our children and invited each child to ask a question about native life, or choose one of our guests’ artifacts that they wanted to learn about. The program reinforced the importance of respecting all people and their differences. To learn more, ask your third grader what they learned about native culture this week!
