It was great seeing so many of you at the World Cultural Festival last Saturday. Our biennial event is a highlight of the Mason-Rice experience and one that brings great pride and joy to our community. Many parents, teachers, staff, and children volunteered to share a country and culture, inspiring performances, and delicious food. While we want to thank all that helped make this event great, we want to especially thank the parent leaders of this day including Pinar Kilicci Kret, Amy Konary, Lucy Mermagen, and Gerlinde Struhkamp Munshi.
Congratulations to Team Mason Lice on winning the first annual Mason-Rice Trivia Night! Six teams of four competed in a friendly challenge of the minds at Union Street Bar and Grill on Monday night. Thank you to all the competitors, question readers and scorekeepers. And a very big thank you to our Parent Social Committee Chairs, Jessica Poscover and Sara Penn Kaprove, for all their incredible work planning our many social events throughout the year.
To all the lucky winners of this year’s Online Auction, please remember to pick up your winning items at the Panera in Newton Centre today, 2/9 from 8:30-9:30AM or tomorrow, 2/10 from 3:00-4:30PM. If you won a party, event or experience, please expect an email by Sunday evening with additional details.
On Tuesday, Superintendent David Fleishman and members of Newton’s School Committee visited with parents in the Centre to provide an update on some current NPS initiatives, answer questions from the group and hear our concerns. Some topics discussed included the current Arrival Policy, Blue Zone safety, Equity Policy updates, recess and lunch times, and facility management and upgrades. Thank you to all the parents that attended and represented our community. We encourage all parents and caregivers to contact the Superintendent’s office or School Committee members with questions and concerns. Your voice is valuable and impactful.
Over the weekend, our community learned of the passing of Andy London, Michelle London’s husband. Our thoughts are with Michelle and her family during this tragic time.
With warm regards,
