We hope this festive season is treating you all well. It has been an action packed week at Mason-Rice from our Gift of Giving campaign to our Principal Coffee and everything in between …
But the fun never stops at Mason Rice and now it’s time to turn our attention to the Auction. As the festive period begins and we start to unwind and think about the New Year, please take a moment to think about setting up a parent event and donating it as an Auction item. Our most popular auction items have been parent-hosted parties and experiences. Not only do these adult-only events bring in much needed funds, they also provide a great opportunity to get to know other Mason-Rice parents and have fun! Past events have included a Belgian Beerfest, Dodge Ball, Tacos & Tequila Night, Moms Movie Night, and Wine Tasting. If you’d like to host an event, need help thinking through a potential idea, or have any questions, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. (Note that we will limit the bidders for your event to Mason-Rice parents only.) To learn more about the Mason-Rice online auction, click here.
This past weekend also saw the first FORJ (Families for Racial Justice) come together with some of our METCO families for a community building event at Boston Bowl. While this was smaller inaugural community building event, we look forward to many more of these events in the near future to connect our wider communities and friends through this program. Stay tuned for more details.
It was lovely seeing all of those cheery faces on school pictures go home last week. We want to thank Leslie Ziarko Valera for organizing Picture Retake Day yesterday. Please see the note below about 5th grade pictures.
This past week also saw the first of our regular HOWLS (home office/makers workers lunch social) group meet at O’Hara’s. It was great to get out and meet fellow parents for a casual lunch and catch-up. We had a great turnout and hope to see a few more faces at the next event, most likely the 2nd week of January. Details pending.
We’d like to thank Principal Bultema and our Math Coach Andy Guttell for presenting at the Principal Coffee. We hope everyone who attended found the information helpful and insightful and we are all are very much looking forward to the return the Principal Stars and the upcoming fun of Spirit Week. Spirit Week will occur December 18-22. Participating in this is completely voluntary for our staff and students and not something that anyone should feel obligated to participate in.
Monday, December 18 – Crazy Hair Day
Tuesday, December 19 – Mismatched Socks Day
Wednesday, December 20 – Favorite Sports Team Day (hats allowed)
Thursday, December 21 – Ugly Sweater/Sweatshirt Day

Your Co-Presidents also attended the full PTO Council meeting with the district’s other PTOs where Amy Kelley provided an insightful overview of the districts SEL program (Social and Emotional Learning) and discussed equity policy guidelines. We’d be happy to share this information with anyone who is interested.
Finally we’d like to remind everyone that next Thursday, December 14 is our PTO Board Meeting at 8.30am. All are invited to join.
We wish all of you a nice weekend. As always, send us an email if you have questions, suggestions or comments.
