We are sprinting towards the finish line with ten school days and two weeks remaining.
This past Saturday, June 2 our METCO and FORJ (Families Organizing for Racial Justice) collaborated to host a potluck at the Neighborhood House Charter School in Dorchester. It was a great opportunity to share food and games as we continue to build meaningful partnerships with one another. I had a wonderful time engaging in several of the games with our students and the chance to connect with our families. Thank you to our event organizers that included Io Cyrus, Emily Frank, Neena McConnico, Molly Stearns, and Sarah Fogelman.
This past Sunday, June 3 our fifth graders held their annual Car Wash to raise money for water.org. My son, Wynn, was mesmerized as he intently watched the students spraying, washing, and drying the cars. Thank you to Sunny Chander for taking the lead on this event, as well as all of our fifth grade students and families for all of your hard work to make this event a huge success to support a worthy cause.
This past Tuesday, June 5 we had an incredible Field Day. The weather was ideal as all of our students engaged in an array of collaborative games and events. It was great to have the opportunity to run around to different activities and see our students working together, encouraging one another, and practicing genuine sportsmanship. Concluding the day with a cool treat and music that got all of us dancing and celebrating was a fitting end. Thank you to Ms. Nohmy for all of her hard work to organize this special event, Nick Grossman and Michael Holley for all of your support and leadership coordinating, as well as all of our parent volunteers who helped our many games to run so smoothly.
This past Wednesday, June 6 our school community was treated to our 4th and 5th grade Chorus Concerts in the morning, followed by our 4th and 5th grade Spring Concerts in the evening that included performances by each grade’s band, orchestra, and chorus. The concerts were truly remarkable! Thank you to our band directors, Ms. McIntosh and Mr. Sheppard, our string orchestra director, Ms. Bergantino, our chorus director, Ms. McIntosh, our accompanist, Mrs. Ross, all of our fourth and fifth grade students, as well as a few from other grades for all of your hard work and dedication to putting on such spectacular shows.
This past week also included our first graders taking a field trip to Franklin Park Zoo on Wednesday, June 6. On Thursday, June 7 our fourth and fifth graders were treated to a visit from author Kate Messner, and our third graders took a field trip to Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester.
I look forward to seeing you all at our Fun Run this upcoming Monday, June 11.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
