Dear Families,

This lovely New England weather has graced us with yet another brutal March storm and a couple more snow days this past week. I hope that all of you were able to stay safe and warm. Let’s hope that spring-like weather will be fast approaching!

This past Friday, March 9 we had a wonderful BINGO Night. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be the guest caller for most of the evening and appreciated many of our fifth graders lending a hand with writing the numbers on our white board, as well as being callers towards the end of the evening. The excitement, enthusiasm, and genuine sense of community were on full display. Thank you to all families who were able to attend, as well as those who helped to run this memorable event, including our organizer, Marci Shyavitz.

This past Monday, March 12 we had our third Principal Coffee of the school year. It was great to connect with families about initiatives that included our recent Evacuation Drill, S.T.A.R.S. Assemblies, Work Shares, and the election of our new school mascot.

This Thursday, March 15 we had a great Grade 3-5 S.T.A.R.S. Assembly. The staff and I have thoroughly enjoyed our S.T.A.R.S. Assemblies thus far and the opportunity to recognize our Supportive, Thoughtful, Accountable, Respectful, Students who love to learn. As a school we believe that in order for our students to be successful inside and outside of school, we must help them learn both academic skills, as well as social and emotional skills. These skills embody the Responsive Classroom approach that our school focuses upon as a Responsive School. We have been recognizing our students for exhibiting great work academically or socially/emotionally as it connects to our three school rules of respecting self, others, and our environment. I have included pictures below of one of our individual S.T.A.R.S., as well as the poster we have up in our school showcasing what the Mason-Rice School S.T.A.R.S. stands for. We look forward to our Grade K-2 S.T.A.R.S. Assembly next week on Tuesday, March 20.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Kindly,
Jake Bultema
