It’s difficult to believe that we are already into the month of February. This week we had two highly successful and extremely well attended Work Shares. Our 5th grade Work Share took place on Wednesday, January 31 with families coming in to see the great work their children selected to share with them. Students chose to share such items as their owl pellet dissection skeletons, their fraction squares, or a polished piece of writing they took through the entire writing process, to name a few. Friday, February 2 and this upcoming Monday, February 5 our 2nd grade Work Share took/is taking place. Second graders shared pieces of writing like their Duck On A Bike story or small moment narrative, as well as other items of work with their families. It was extremely rewarding to visit some of these classrooms in the morning and actively take part in the enthusiasm that students were expressing to their families as they shared their hard work with them. Thank you to our teachers, students, and families for all of the effort you put into making these work shares so meaningful.
This Friday, February 2 it was great to see the excitement that students have for the upcoming Super Bowl as they dressed in Patriots gear, as well as other sports gear in support of their favorite team. I know many of us are looking forward to enjoying the big game this Sunday, February 4.
This upcoming Tuesday, February 6 Superintendent David Fleishman and Newton School Committee members will be visiting our school at 8:30 AM in the Centre to discuss important system initiatives and be available to answer questions on topics of interest to the Mason Rice community. I look forward to connecting with those of you who are able to attend.
On Saturday, February 3 (tomorrow) we welcome our World Cultures Festival from 1-4 PM here at Mason-Rice. This wonderful event provides us the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our school community. We have over 30 countries that will be represented at our festival! I am delighted to have the opportunity to learn about other cultures collectively with all of you and your children.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
