Dear Families,

On behalf of the entire Mason-Rice Staff I would like to thank our fabulous PTO for the breakfast they provided to our staff this Tuesday, December 19, 2017. It was such a treat to be able to connect with one another in the morning while enjoying the delicious spread you all brought in. We all truly appreciate your genuine support and care for us.

This past week (December 11-15) our Mason-Rice Kids Take Action (KTA) group sponsored their yearly event and fundraiser, Luke’s Lights. Students made posters, announced the events over the loudspeaker, and presented their awareness campaign to all 22 of our classrooms. KTA fundraised close to $800, both in solar light sales, which students sold everyday after school, as well as donations. The next KTA campaign will focus on shelter animals and their needs by raising donations for the MSPCA (Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

The staff and I are really looking forward to bringing back our S.T.A.R.S. Assemblies to recognize our Supportive, Thoughtful, Accountable, Respectful, Students who love to learn. As a school we believe that in order for our students to be successful inside and outside of school, we must help them learn both academic skills, as well as social and emotional skills. These skills embody the Responsive Classroom approach that our school focuses upon as a Responsive School. We will be recognizing our students for exhibiting great work academically or socially/emotionally as it connects to our three school rules of respecting self, others, and our environment. Our assemblies will continue to include Musical Morning, where students have the opportunity to perform a song from a musical instrument they play. Please continue on in this newsletter to find the section to sign your child up if this is something they are interested in. Our first assembly for our students in grades 3-5 will be on Thursday, January 11, while our first assembly for our students in grades K-2 will be on Tuesday, January 16.

Lastly, this is my final entry for this calendar year. It’s hard to imagine that we have already reached the December break. I hope this break provides you some added time to connect with both family and friends. Happy Holidays! Happy New Year! I look forward to the great work we will continue to embark upon together in 2018.
