Dear Families,

This week marks the successful completion of our seventh week of school.  This upcoming week is always one of the most exciting weeks of our school year with the Book Fair arriving.  Mason-Rice is a community that truly loves books and loves reading.  This year the Mason-Rice Book Fair will run from Wednesday, October 25th through Friday, October 27th.  The exciting and much loved Pajama Party Read Aloud is scheduled for Thursday evening, October 26th, from 6-7:30pm.  I am looking forward to reading Spooky Stories to students this evening.  Our Book Fair is held in The Centre, meaning that lunches will be eaten in our classrooms.  So that every student may participate, families may apply for waivers based on financial hardship.  All waiver applications are confidential and are available upon request; please contact the Mason-Rice School office directly at 617-559-9570.  Please note that parents are welcome to shop before or after school, or during the school day when your child’s class visits the Book Fair (see hours listed below).  Please remember to sign in at the front office first.

Our food service company would like to hear from you.  Please take a moment to share your food service experience so that the NPS food service department can improve service, address any issues of concern, and make changes that create a more positive experience for students and families. The survey should take no more than 5 minutes and gives very important feedback!

Lastly, to our grade four and five families you will soon be receiving your child’s MCAS scores, which include results from the next-generation MCAS tests that were given in English language arts and mathematics to students in grades 3-5 in the spring of this past school year.  Please click on this link to view a letter addressed to parents from our state’s acting commissioner, Jeff Wulfson, with information about interpreting your child’s results.  I am working with our PTO Presidents, Jas and Will, to coordinate a date in the coming weeks for a Principal Coffee to speak about these results for Mason-Rice.  Be looking for a specific date in the near future.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
