Dear Mason-Rice Parents & Caregivers,
Sixteen days left to go as my 8 year old gleefully told me last night! Many important events are happening in such a short period of time, important dates before June 22 (last day of school!) to keep track of, and we want to make sure all of our families and students are included. We have moved the dates of some of our events, so please take a moment to review the calendar on our Mason-Rice PTO website, as well as the events and dates included below.
By now you also should have received an email from the principal regarding staffing updates and teacher assignments for next year. We’d like to thank everyone at the committee and faculty level for all the hard work behind the scenes to ensure new hires were in place early and for the due diligence during the interview process.
As an alternative to our annual Book Swap, this year we will hold our first Mason-Rice Book Drive in mid-June. The decision to participate in a school-wide book drive was made with great consideration and we know your generosity and caring will make this drive a success. We will be collecting gently used books for Kindergarten through 5th grade students and donating them to elementary school libraries and students in need, so parents please start your spring cleaning now! More information about the Book Drive, including where to drop off your donations will be coming soon. If you have any questions or would like to get involved with the Book Drive, please contact Eleni Firkusny at firstname.lastname@example.org or (617) 686-2642. Thank you!
In addition to many classroom and grade- specific activities happening in the next 4 weeks, such as field trips, concerts, class picnics, etc., we will have the following all-school events:
Field Day on Tuesday, June 5 (rain date Thursday, June 7). We still need parent volunteers to make this event a success and in our opinion, it is one of the best events to volunteer for. Please click here to volunteer and learn how you can help.
Fun Run and Spring Picnic moved to Monday, June 11 (rain date of Wednesday, June 14). Come and cheer for the kids as each grade races around the school field, and stay for a picnic. Click here to learn how you can help with the race events. Pre-order your dinner from our current 4th grade class by completing this form by June 5.
Parent/Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, June 15 (rain date tbd). This event is held on the playground so smaller children can play while parents, guardians, and caregivers gather.
Lastly we’d like to inform everyone that the last day of school, Friday, June 22 is early release at 12 noon. Please mark your calendars and the PTO will be continuing the tradition from last year of having the shaved ice truck at the school to reward the children (and parents) for all their hard work and efforts throughout the year with a tasty cold treat on hopefully a hot day.
Rest up and enjoy the upcoming weekend, it’s going to be a whirlwind of a June.
