Dear Mason-Rice parents,
We hope you enjoyed your 3 days of spring weather, now that we are straight into the sweltering heat of summer. It was great to see all of you who biked or walked to school this week on Walk/Bike/Bus to School Day. Thanks to Barbara Nestle who coordinated this event.
This week was the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon which attracts tasty and creative fare from all over the globe via the parent community. The teachers truly appreciate all of your hard work and tasty donations. Thank you to everyone who participated and Maureen Oates and Heather Friedman who were able to organize all of this at short notice.
Additionally; thank you to everyone who participated in the annual NewtonSERVES community program this past Sunday, and for sprucing up our school and facilities. We are very fortunate to have a strong school community who often donate their personal time for such events. And a special thank you to Sarah Solomon who organized Newton Serves and was at Mason-Rice all day Sunday directing activities and doing tasks herself. (Thanks too to Sarah’s husband, Simi, for all of the support!)
Last Friday was the annual Mason-Rice Science Fair which attracted 100s of visitors and many fabulous exhibits from our wonderful children. Thank you to the entire community who made this wonderful event happen. We are certain some parents had some late nights in there somewhere. We’d especially like to thank Elissa Rottenberg and the 5th grade team of food volunteers for putting on such a great event and keeping the hungry hordes happy. Elissa has been managing the event for the past 5 years and will be passing the torch (not Jeffrey) to another parent next year.
Please remember, all students should have brought home a Raffle Booklet and tickets in their backpacks. Complete your tickets and deposit them in the Raffle Tickets box near the raffle baskets in the lobby of Mason-Rice by Wednesday, May 9 @ 6pm! Click HERE for the Raffle Booklet and to see the descriptions of the wonderful baskets your donations have created along with the list of exciting teacher and specialist excursions.
The deadline for student submissions to A+ Magazine has been extended until next week, May 11. We strongly encourage all students to participate. Click here for submission guidelines and directions on sending work.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the upcoming Principal Coffee on May 11th at 8.30am. It’s a fabulous opportunity to hear about what’s happening in the district and classrooms from Principal Bultema and a great opportunity for parents to have a dialogue with the school’s leadership.
For anyone interested in the monthly home office workers/makers lunch (howls), signup for the next lunch on Friday, May 18 at the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0444a4ae29a6f49-howls
