Dear Mason-Rice Parents & Caregivers,
Believe it or not summer is coming and we have just four weeks left of school. Our Mason-Rice community has many events and important dates before June 22 (last day of school!) to keep track of, and we want to make sure all of our families and students are included. We have moved the dates of some of our events, so please take a moment to review the calendar on our Mason-Rice PTO website, as well as the events and dates included below.
As an alternative to our annual Book Swap, this year we will hold our first Mason-Rice Book Drive in mid-June. The decision to participate in a school-wide book drive was made with great consideration and we know your generosity and caring will make this drive a success. We will be collecting gently used books for Kindergarten through 5th grade students and donating them to elementary school libraries and students in need, so parents please start your spring cleaning now! More information about the Book Drive, including where to drop off your donations will be coming soon. If you have any questions or would like to get involved with the Book Drive, please contact Eleni Firkusny at email@example.com or (617) 686-2642. Thank you!
In addition to many classroom and grade- specific activities happening in the next 4 weeks, such as field trips, concerts, class picnics, etc., we will have the following all-school events:
– Field Day on Tuesday, June 5 (rain date Thursday, June 7). We still need parent volunteers to make this event a success and in our opinion, it is one of the best events to volunteer for. Please click here to volunteer and learn how you can help.
– Fun Run and Spring Picnic moved to Monday, June 11 (rain date of Wednesday, June 14). Come and cheer for the kids as each grade races around the school field, and stay for a picnic. Click here to learn how you can help with the race events. Pre-order your dinner from our current 4th grade class by completing this form by June 5.
– Parent/Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, June 15 (rain date tbd). This event is held on the playground so smaller children can play while parents, guardians, and caregivers gather.
Finally, we would like to thank Phil Jackson for running the Mason-Rice Lost & Found ’boutique’. For the last few years, Phil has thoughtfully collected, sorted and hung our children’s stray and abandoned items, making sure they were waiting in plain site for anxious students (and parents) to reclaim them. Every smile on the face of a child who discovered they didn’t lose that special hat, or their brand new winter gloves, or that most important belonging is thanks to Phil’s efforts. Phil would like everyone to know it has been his pleasure to help our community and how grateful he is for the opportunity to meet and speak with Mason-Rice parents over the years. Also, we want to thank Katy Anderson, who has graciously volunteered to be our new Lost & Found coordinator.
We wish everyone a wonderful and safe weekend as we observe Memorial Day.
