Dear Mason-Rice parents,

Welcome back from Spring Vacation. We’ve had a busy week filled with important deadlines and events, and we want to thank everyone for their efforts. Getting back in to the groove after a week off is sometimes overwhelming and we are very grateful to all who helped by donating their time and resources. With that said, we need your help in the Mason-Rice Library. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to volunteer at school, then come help our librarian, Jennifer Reed, shelve books. She can use your help any morning after drop-off, from 8:30-9:00am.

We also need help with our annual Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon we are hosting next Tuesday, May 1. We still need some appetizers, entrees, and side dishes — particularly gluten-free ones — and more. Please take a minute to review the signup here and see how your family can contribute.

The Mason-Rice Science Fair is TONIGHT from 6:00-7:00pm! We have nearly 100 students participating and their projects are both amazing and informative. Expand your mind, support our students and come hungry. Food and drink will be on sale benefitting 5th grade graduation.

Raffle basket donations are due by the end of school today! There is still time to donate to your child’s classroom basket. Please click here for further details about the raffle and the themed baskets. Next week, your child will bring home raffles tickets and instructions detailing how to bid on baskets. The drawing takes place on May 11. This is our last fundraiser of the year, and one of the kids’ favorite events.

NewtonSERVES, our annual citywide volunteer effort, takes place this Sunday 4/29. Please join us at Mason-Rice for some spring cleaning, gardening, painting and light carpentry. There are projects to suit everyone’s talents and abilities and all efforts are greatly appreciated. Ages 8 and up are welcome and the day begins at 8:30am. Remember to bring nonperishable food for the Food Drive if you can.

A+ Magazine is currently accepting submissions for this year’s run. Students love seeing their work in print, and they are invited to submit poems, drawings, comics, puzzles, jokes, photos, interviews, reviews and more – all are welcome. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 4. Please click here for submission guidelines and directions on sending work.

Have a great weekend and we hope to see you Sunday for NewtonSERVES!

Best,

Will Adams & Jas Rai
