Last week the first grade was treated to a visit from Jim Parks from Wingmasters. He brought five birds of prey (raptors) with him to show the group of 1st graders. He shared a hawk two falcon and two owls with the group. He explained their place in the food chain and their hunting adaptations. Also all the raptors he shared with us are ones that can be found right here in Newton!

Author Matt Tavares visited with our kindergarteners and first graders on Thursday morning. He shared details about his writing and illustration experiences, including his dedication to background research. He mesmerized our kindergarteners with a reading of Zachary’s Ball and then modeled is bird drawing techniques. He took our first graders on a photographic journey through the Dominican Republic, so that our students could understand how he developed Growing up Pedro. Students were inspired to be creative and perseverant when writing their own stories.
