Mason-Rice Book Fair @ The Centre!

Mason-Rice Book Fair @ The Centre!

Literacy is a cornerstone of the Mason-Rice experience and to support that effort the Mason Rice PTO gears up every November to bring our school community The Mason-Rice Book Fair.   All week long, The Centre will be transformed into a children’s bookstore featuring carefully selected, quality books appropriate for all reading levels in the elementary levels, middle school and adult books too. Remember that parents are welcome to browse and shop during the hours below. Thank you for your support!

Classroom Visit Schedule

Your child will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair with his/her class during the school day. Parent volunteers will be on hand to help students navigate the Book Fair. Typically, parents send their children with cash or check (payable to “Mason-Rice PTO”) on the day of the visit. If you forget or choose not to send money, then your child can fill out a wish list and bring it home to you. Check the schedule for your child’s class time.  Click to view Classroom Visit Schedule.

We need lots of help, and there are many volunteer options to fit a variety of schedules. If you’re flexible during the day, you can help children during class visits (your child’s class only) or work the registers for a 1-2 hour shift. If you’re available in the evening, consider volunteering to serve milk and cookies or host the hospitality table during the Pajama Party Read Aloud! We can’t pull this off without you, so we appreciate any/all help that you can give!

Classroom visit volunteers:  Each class needs 2 or 3 parent volunteers during their classroom visit time to help direct students to the appropriate level books, make book suggestions, and assist in determining what the child can purchase with the money that he/she has.

Cashiers: Cashier help is also needed throughout the week of the Book Fair.  Cashiers will work 2 to 3 hour shifts. We can be flexible as to which times you can help out.  To sign up for cashier helper, follow the same link above.  Let us know if the hours on the signup need to be adjusted to fit your schedule.

Reading Room Monitors: Volunteers are needed to help monitor the reading rooms during the Read-Alouds and to serve milk and cookies.

Eacher Book Bag Program

The Book Fair is a great opportunity to help update your child’s classroom library.  Teachers fill up a personalized book bag with books for their classroom libraries.  Parent scan pick a book from the teacher’s book bag to buy for the classroom and dedicate it from your family.  When the fair is over, your child’s teacher will have a bag full of books for the students to enjoy! Look for the Teacher Book Bag display at the Book Fair. Specialists and After Care will also have book bags should you wish to contribute to them as well.
